What Social Security Benefits are Available for the Disabled

If you have been working, tax deductions have been taken out of your paycheck to purchase mandatory Social Security Disability Insurance. If you have worked enough in your life and recently enough and become disabled, you and certain dependent family members are eligible to receive monthly Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits.  (Persons who have been disabled since before age 22 may also be entitled to Disabled Adult Child Benefits based upon a parent’s earning record; disabled widows and widowers may also be eligible to draw benefits off their late spouse’s earning record.)

pic-ss.jpgA disabled person (an adult or a child) who has not worked enough, or recently enough,  in his or her life may instead or in addition be eligible for monthly SSI. (Supplemental Security Income) Under this program, benefit amounts will vary depending upon the disabled person’s other assets and income
